Vegas Weekender: Rock out in Vegas with shows, drink specials and dining deals

It’s hard to believe that March is just around the corner. With all of the events going on the last weekend of February, Las Vegas can help you say goodbye to the last month of winter and heat things up for spring.

See “America’s Got Talent” winner Terry Fator belt out all your favorites and tickle your funny bone with his ventriloquism skills at the Mirage. His show runs Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Keep the laughs going at the Mirage and see Ray Romano and Kevin James on Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 at 10 p.m.

Australian comedian and online sensation Jim Jeffries is this week’s Playboy Comedy act at the Palms. Catch him Thursday, Feb. 24 through Saturday, Feb. 26 at 9:30 p.m. (with an additional 7:30 p.m. show on Saturday).

Gilbert Gottfried, famous for doing the voice of Iago the parrot on Disney’s animated flick “Aladdin,” entertains audiences at the Las Vegas Hilton through Sunday, Feb. 27 at 10 p.m.

Alternative music sensation Stone Temple Pilots rock the house on Friday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. inside the Palms.

Take a trip back to the ’60s and ’70s and enjoy the Southern Californian sounds of Desperado at the Las Vegas Hilton Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. If you’re a fan of the Eagles, then you’ll dig the musical style of Desperado.

Get into the soulful sounds of Matt Goss, performing at the Gossy Room inside Caesars Palace Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 at 9:30 p.m.

And speaking of soulful sounds, see up-and-coming rhythm and blues artist Ryan Shaw at Cosmopolitan’s Book & Stage lounge now through Saturday, Feb. 26.


Keep on partying at the Cosmo with a DJ set by San Diego’s Fresh One at the hotel’s Bond bar.

Catch the Las Vegas debut of French electronic DJ and producer Martin Solveig at Surrender inside Encore. Groove and dance the night away to this DJ’s sounds of funk, house and pop on Friday, Feb. 25.

Every Friday, catch DJ Loczi’s “Electric Dream” inside MGM’s Studio 54. If you’re a fan of electro, dubstep, progressive house and break-beats mixed with pop, hip hop, funk, soul and disco, you’ll keep coming back for more.

It’s that time of year again! Rockhouse, located in the front of Imperial Palace, presents “Spring Broke 2011.” Now through Memorial Day, college students can enjoy drink specials like two-for-one beers, $5 shots, and bottle service for $100 Monday through Wednesday. Party animals with proof of a college ID also get free entry before 10 p.m.

In addition, every week Rockhouse presents “College Wednesdays.” During this special night, college students can enjoy open bar ($5 for ladies, $10 for gents). Even those without a college ID can enjoy open bar drink specials ($10 for ladies, $20 for gents). On Thursday nights, college girls get free drinks from 10:30 p.m. to midnight.


It’s not too late to enjoy February spa specials. If you’re looking for the perfect way to recoup from all the partying, visit the spa at Aria. Offering “His and Her” specials, couples can take advantage of fun spa treatments catered just to them. Through the end of February, men can luxuriate in Aria “Man-Days.” Men can enjoy the Aria Man Royal Shave and Barber Haircut for $65 (regularly $130) or the Aria Stylist Man-Cut and Man-i-cure for $100 (regularly $125).

M-Resort-Marinellis-Italian-Restaurant-1M Resort’s Marinelli’s (pictured right) offers a new happy hour menu from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Specials include $7 antipasti items such as the Italian meatball slider, crisply fried mozzarella with creamy marinara sauce and steamed fresh clams, to name a few. Specialty cocktails include sangria, pomegranate margarita, blood orange Cosmopolitan and a champagne mojito.

Starting at $19, entrees include risottos, handmade pastas and selections from the Marnell family recipe book. Diners may also opt for three-course prix fixe menu for $32. The menu offers a choice of six appetizers, seven entrees and three desserts.

For those who want to experience dinner and a show, Cosmopolitan presents “Vintage: The Machine – A Pink Floyd Tribute” on Saturday, Feb. 26. The Machine performs Pink Floyd songs in two 65-minute sets. This event also offers eight featured wines (each of which correspond to a matching song) and hors d’oeuvres. This event is located inside the Castellana ballroom.


Most folks take their Vegas jackpot winnings back home, but my dad decided to stay here instead. That’s how I left Seattle almost 20 years ago. I moved from greenery and rainy days to hot summers, palm trees and desert. As much as I love my hometown, I decided to stick around Vegas. This city just has so much to offer. You don’t even have to be a gambler, bar hopper or an all-night partier. I love Vegas for its awesome vegan-friendly spots, concerts, swanky hotel suites and spas so big, they’re like castles. The pool scene is not too shabby either, which is why I love taking stay-cations. Besides living it up -- Vegas style -- I’m hanging out with my handsome hubby, adorable baby girl, two cats and super-fluffy Shih-Tzu. I’m also a huge fan of '90s music, shows and movies.
