Vegas Weekender: Rock ‘n’ roll and relaxation

If you’ve come to Vegas to party, you couldn’t have chosen a better time. This weekend is all about music – from hip-hop to country, we’ve got a concert for you. Wine lovers will enjoy Rock ‘N Roll Wine’s Annual Reggae Pool Party or you can grab a glass at M Resort’s Hostile Grape bar. After a weekend of partying, relax in one of Vegas’ heavenly spas. Check out what’s hot and happening this week:

Start the weekend on a fun and charming note with Terry Fator at Mirage. More than just a ventriloquist, this “America’s Got Talent” winner is known to have his puppets belt out the top hits of your favorite artists. You’ll also see some original characters guaranteed to tickle your funny bone. See his show Tuesday – Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Also performing at Mirage this weekend is Jay Leno, May 14-15 at 10 p.m.

If you’re coming out with your girls, make sure to check out Girls Night – The Musical, showing nightly Thursday through Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at MGM Grand. Since the story is about a group of girlfriends having the time of their lives, we’re sure this production will get you even more pumped for this spring’s “Sex in the City” sequel.

And for all you fans of hip hop and dance, MGM Grand also showcases the world-famous Jabbawockeez, performing nightly (except Fridays and Saturdays) at MGM Grand at 9:30 p.m. If you were blown away with their stellar moves on MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew,” just imagine seeing the dance prodigies live on stage. For those not familiar with the troupe, Jabbawockeez adds a refreshing, theatrical spin to today’s “B-Boy” culture by donning white masks and executing moves in precise synchronization — just picture mimes with a bit of hip-hop flavor. Hurry, because these theatrical B-Boys are only in Vegas through May 26.

Country music fans can catch Kenny Chesney, May 14 – 15 at 8 p.m. at The Joint at the Hard Rock. Also to perform at The Joint this weekend is pop rock sensation Paramore, May 16 at 7 p.m. For a concert under the stars, this week’s Hard Rock’s Friday Night Live performance is Toots and Maytals (May 14).

If you’re ready to see some Playboy bunnies, join Grammy-award winning R&B singer Robin Thicke as he hosts and performs during the 2010 Playmate of the Year awards ceremony at the Palms on May 15. Other appearances include recording artists White Tie Affair, the Playmate Dancers and special guest Pamela Anderson. “Playboy” magazine founder Hugh Hefner joins Palms owner George Maloof to announce Playboy Magazine’s 2010 Playmate of the Year. Tickets are $39 for general admission and $69 for seated.

For all you Ludacris fans, check out this Southern rapper at Pure Nightclub inside Caesars for a special one-night performance Saturday, May 15.

“Wine” down with fine wine tasting and good music

If you’re heading over to M Resort, plan on going to Rock ‘N Roll Wine’s Annual Reggae Pool Party on Saturday, May 15 at 7 p.m., which is located at the resort’s outdoor pool and entertainment piazza, Villaggio Del Sole.

A night for wine and music lovers alike, sip more than 50 wines under the stars poolside while enjoying the live reggae sounds of Michael Black and Jah Guide band and Los Angeles sensation Peter Goetz with his festival band. Sample wine selections including Rodney Strong, Jus Soli, Davis Bynum, George Wines, Wilson Creek, Kim Crawford, and Rock ‘n Roll Wine’s own award-winning wines “Reggae Rhapsody” and “The Grotto.”

Villaggio Del Sole offers breathtaking views of the desert night sky and Las Vegas Strip. The outdoor piazza includes a state-of-the-art, built-in stage and sound system, infinity-edge pool, two hot tubs and a pool bar.

Tickets are $39.95 in advance and $45 at the door (plus tax). Ticket price includes all wine sampling and live entertainment as well as a Rock ‘n Roll Wine Bucks voucher for $10 toward the purchase of any of the evening’s featured wine at local retailers.

Are you in the military and want the chance to score some free wine? “Wine” not? While you’re at M Resort, join Hostile Grape Grape’s “Single as I Wanna Be” at M Resort and enjoy a free bottle of wine when you present your military ID.

For something a little more intimate, the Palms offers dueling pianos inside its lounge every Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The cost is free and open to the public. Guests must be 21 and older.
