Vegas Weekender: NASCAR, Human Nature and pool club season begins

This weekend in Vegas, there is no shortage of things to do. Enjoy the NASCAR Kobalt Tools 400 race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Or if you’re in town for Spring Break, head to Tacos and Tequila for a margarita or a beer. No matter what you’re in town for, Vegas has something for you to do this weekend.


The NASCAR Kobalt Tools 400 race takes place this weekend at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. See all your favorite racers compete during the Sam’s Town 300 on Saturday, March 10 and the Kobalt Tools 400 on March 11. Festivities start with the Stratosphere Pole Day March 9. Tickets for Pole Day start at $25 and tickets for the Kobalt Tools 400 start at $49.


As part of NASCAR Week in Vegas, select restaurants have dining specials, like PBR Rock Bar & Grill. Friday – Sunday, PBR Rock Bar will feature a 10 percent off dining discount with ticket stubs for the race and complimentary open bar for one hour after the race finishes. PBR Rock Bar & Grill is a 16,800-square-foot venue, complete with patio, mechanical bull and indoor bar and seating area. PBR serves Southern-style comfort food in a casual, lively setting.

If you’re here for spring break, you’re in luck — Tacos and Tequila at the Luxor offers spring breakers a few sweet deals, including the “Seis y Seis” package, with six specialty tacos and six bottled beers for just $29. A $5 happy hour menu with extended hours from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. is also offered. And, if you’re looking for something extra large, try the “Chonga, She’s Back,” giant frozen margarita for $20, served with two 7-ounce upside-down beers stuck in the drink.


Bring a little doo-wop into your life with “Human Nature – The Ultimate Celebration of the Motown Sound presented by Smokey Robinson.” Human Nature features a smooth Motown sound as they sing favorites from that era like “Baby I Need Your Loving,” “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” and “Reach Out I’ll Be There.” Tickets for Human Nature start at $61.27. Show time is March 10 – 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Imperial Theatre at Imperial Palace.

Funnyman Tim Allen brings his stand up routine to Vegas at the Venetian Showroom. Allen is best known for playing Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor on ABC’s “Home Improvement.” Allen has also been on the big screen in movies such as “The Santa Clause” and the voice of Buzz Lightyear in “Toy Story.” Allen takes the stage Saturday, March 10 at 9 p.m. Tickets start at $85.75.

With a career that has lasted more than four decades, Chicago takes the stage at LVH-Las Vegas Hotel & Casino this weekend. Chicago’s hits include “Saturday in the Park,” “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” and “You’re the Inspiration.” The show takes place at the LVH Theater on March 9 – 10 at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $71.85.

Singer Rachel Yamagata’s soulful music has a distinct sultry sound. Yamagata, whose songs include “Even If I Don’t” and “The Way It Seems To Go,” is performing at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas at Book & Stage March 8 – 10. Show times are 10 p.m. – 11 p.m. and midnight – 1 a.m. Thursday and 10:30 p.m. – midnight Friday and Saturday. The performance is free to the public.

Wet Republic Pool Club opens its doors this Friday, March 9 for the first time this season. Special guests Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett, Bob Sinclair and Sky Blu of LMFAO will help kick off the festivities at MGM Grand. Weekend entry (Friday – Sunday) starts at $20 for females and $40 for males. Local ladies are free.

Actor Jesse Metcalfe hosts the night at Gallery on Saturday, March 10. Metcalfe is best known for his work on “Desperate Housewives” and is currently the star of the new series “Dallas.” Gallery Nightclub is located in Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Doors open at 10 p.m. and tickets start at $20 for ladies and $30 for gentlemen.
