Go green with organic spa treatments

Organic. Whether it’s fruit, vegetables, condiments and even shampoo, organic (or all-natural, pesticide-free) products are virtually everywhere. I know first-hand that fruits and vegetables actually taste better. But besides this, going organic is ultimately better for you and for the environment as well.

If you’re going to treat yourself to a day at the spa, the last thing you want to do is put harsh chemicals onto your body. The products might smell and feel great on your skin, but will it really benefit you in the long run? A handful of spas on the Strip have jumped on the organic bandwagon with an array of treatments that will leave your skin (and all of your other senses) feeling great. Here are just a few you don’t want to miss.

Vdara Health & Beauty

Vdara Health & Beauty  incorporates organic and vegan product lines into its services. Even the spa brochure is made from recycled paper! The spa uses ingredients derived from organic herbs, flowers, fruits, vegetables and essential oils.

Lemon Verbena Body Polish

lemonFresh lemon and gentle buffing grains are blended with stimulating herbal extracts to soften the skin. This gentle exfoliation moisturizes and revitalizes to leave your skin smooth and silky. This treatment includes a Verbena hand softener, a soothing hand cream to promote deep healing in chapped hands and a peppermint tea tree foot balm, a hydrating cream with tingly peppermint oil to stimulate circulation in the feet. Treatment concludes with a massage for the back, neck and shoulders. The two-hour service is $325.

French lavender soothing massage

This massage includes a calming oil that helps the body unwind. The French lavender is an excellent remedy for stress to promote sleep, soothe headaches or unwind. This herb targets the central nervous system, addressing nervousness, exhaustion, insomnia, irritability and even depression. A balancing oil, it both relaxes and stimulates. The service is $140 for 60 minutes, $190 for 90 minutes or $250 for 120 minutes.

lavanderTan the healthy way and be good to your nails, too

If you’re into tanning but worried about the damages it can do to your skin, Vdara offers tanning products that also serve as a skin care treatment. This special solution is made with organic and natural botanicals, herbs and antioxidants and completely free of harsh chemicals.

Vdara also uses Sparitual, a vegan nail care line that uses plant essences that are wild-crafted, organic and animal cruelty-free. To make your manicure or pedicure a real treat, you can add a hot stone treatment to the service.

The spa at Aria

Just steps away from Vdara, the spa at Aria also offers an organic manicure. This manicure is ideal for those who are sensitive to fragrances and harsh products. If you would like that extra exfoliation, your manicurist can include an all-natural leaf from South America to your service. The 50-minute service includes soaking, filing, cuticle work, exfoliation, massage and polish for $65.

The spa at Mirage

applePear, apple and organic? Now this is true bliss and enough reason to visit the spa at the Mirage.

Pear and Apple Facial and Body Treatment
The service starts with a natural microdermabrasion of poppy seeds and walnut that leaves the skin perfectly polished and healthy. All signs of roughness and dryness will be smoothed away, leaving the most soft and healthy skin. The aromatic body treatment includes a mouthwatering pear and green apple sugar scrub. The service follows with a body wrap and a relaxing scalp massage. A body wrap is applied after exfoliation and while your skin is rejuvenating, receive a relaxing scalp massage. Finish off with an all-over hydrating application of delectable pear and green apple soufflé cream. This 80-minute service is $235.

The spa at Four Seasons

Another spa joining the “green” movement is the Four Seasons. The organic spa treatments here are free of parabens, silicones, synthetic colors and fragrances. Your skin will be more hydrated, softer, smoother and more supple.

Deep Cleanse & Pore Refining Facial
This rejuvenating facial begins with a thorough cleansing and exfoliation using rosemary and pineapple extracts, followed with an application of mineral-rich Hungarian moor mud, which draws out impurities and nourishes the skin. The treatment incorporates a vigorous Hungarian facial massage that promotes micro-circulation and leaves skin with a refreshed glow (50 minutes, $175, 80 minutes, $245).

Dimple Dissolve
This cellulite-busting treatment begins with a vigorous yet gentle brushing of the body and a detoxifying exfoliation using sea salt and mineral-rich Hungarian thermal mud. The Dimple Vanisher is then massaged into freshly buffed skin. The finishing touch is a light lymphatic drainage, in which the body’s micro-circulation is accelerated and the appearance of dimples is reduced ($175).

Most folks take their Vegas jackpot winnings back home, but my dad decided to stay here instead. That’s how I left Seattle almost 20 years ago. I moved from greenery and rainy days to hot summers, palm trees and desert. As much as I love my hometown, I decided to stick around Vegas. This city just has so much to offer. You don’t even have to be a gambler, bar hopper or an all-night partier. I love Vegas for its awesome vegan-friendly spots, concerts, swanky hotel suites and spas so big, they’re like castles. The pool scene is not too shabby either, which is why I love taking stay-cations. Besides living it up -- Vegas style -- I’m hanging out with my handsome hubby, adorable baby girl, two cats and super-fluffy Shih-Tzu. I’m also a huge fan of '90s music, shows and movies. You can find me on Google+ and Twitter.
