Baby, be mine: Wow your mate on a Vegas Valentine date

We already covered what kind of gifts to shower your love with, as well as where to wine and dine her. Since you’re spending the entire day (scratch that – entire week!) celebrating, we came up with some great date ideas in Vegas.

In one city, you can do everything from relaxing in a spa and taking off in a hot air balloon to dedicating songs at the Fountains of Bellagio and swimming with the sharks. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Spa for two

Who can resist spa treatments? These days, more men are embracing the idea of being pampered. Here are some of the treatments you can experience together. In the end, you’ll feel so relaxed and refreshed that you might not want to do anything else for the rest of the day.

“The spa provides an ideal setting to push the outside world away and be in the moment with your significant other,” said Shannon Mariani, director of recreational services at Vdara. “Oftentimes our most cherished gifts are the simple things – time and attention. There’s no better way to accomplish that than with a couple’s day at the spa.”

The Spa Bellagio: The Couple’s Champagne Spa Sanctuary  is ideal for those looking to get in sync with their partners. Unwind side by side in a private room for a couple’s massage, where you’ll each have your own personal therapist. Afterward, indulge in champagne sips and chocolate-covered strawberries. A 50-minute session costs $200 per person and a 100-minute session costs $335 per person. This service is available Feb. 13 – 17.

For $200 per person, enjoy the Duet Massage and Facial + Champagne Sanctuary, which includes a 25-minute massage and a 25-minute facial. Then it’s time to indulge in chocolate-covered strawberries and a little bubbly for a perfect ending to this Valentine’s Day retreat.

Mandalay Bay and THEHotel: Available at Spa Mandalay and THEhotel’s Bathhouse, every guest receives a complimentary gift of handmade Vincent Pilon chocolates, along  with the following spa treatments:

The 50-minute Decadent Champagne Massage is a full-body custom pressure massage that uses the scent of champagne. This massage increases circulation, soothes tired muscles and creates an overall sense of relaxation ($150 per person).

Capture that special glow with a 50-minute champagne Fizz Facial. This service revitalizes, hydrates and nourishes the skin to create a mesmerizing glow ($205 per person).

The Pop-the-Top Pedicure combines the classic elements of a pedicure with the fruity scent of champagne. Start with a brown sugar and acai foot scrub, followed by a hydrating champagne-scented, whipped body lotion application ($90 per person).

EncoreThe Spa at Encore offers its romantic Couples Retreat experience. This 105-minute journey begins with an aromatic bath paired with a body polish and steam shower. The Couples Retreat concludes with a relaxing massage and hydrating body butter ($790 per couple).

Wynn: Savor the scents of the luxurious Choco Latte Body Buff  in a private couple’s suite. The 80-minute treatment uses organic green coffee and cacao from Hawaii to leave skin smooth. The experience begins with a relaxing foot bath and includes a gentle scrub and body butter envelopment ($300 per person).

Aria: The spa at Aria features a special Valentine’s Day package that will leave you both with smooth, glowing skin. The 80-minute session begins with a coconut sugar body scrub, followed by an application of moisture-locking body butter. Pamper your face with a diamond gemstone facial, infused with fine gems and botanicals blended in luxurious oils and creams ($275 per person).

Or, opt for the After Dark Private Spa Retreat. This romantic experience includes two hours of luxurious treatments in one of the spa’s private suites while indulging in champagne and hors d’oeuvres.

“A spa date for couples is both a serene and romantic experience,” said Michelle Wilkos, spa director at Aria. “It embraces a relaxing ambiance that lends to harmony and togetherness.”

Embarking on a spontaneous date together will not only be a great way to spend quality time, but will leave you with lasting memories. No matter your lifestyle, we’re sure you’ll find at least one adventurous activity to do in Vegas.

Gondola at The Venetian: That’s amore! When my husband and I stepped into our gondola ride, it felt like we were in a different country — even though we were indoors and surrounded by shops. The gondolier serenaded us in Italian and while everyone “on land” looked at us, it didn’t matter. We felt like we were on our honeymoon all over again. To top it off, the stunning architecture and the sound of  the water lapping made us feel a million miles away. This will probably be busier than usual during Valentine’s Day, so keep that in mind. There is also an outdoor gondola experience. More of a reason to cuddle during this chilly time of the year, right?

Vegas Balloon Rides: This is another romantic getaway I shared with the hubby. After we finished freaking out that we were hundreds of feet off the ground (it was our first time in a hot air balloon), it felt liberating to see all parts of the Las Vegas valley, from the Strip to the residential side.

We also liked how quiet and peaceful it was during our trip. The propane went off every once in a while, but it didn’t affect the experience one bit. The ride can last between 45 minutes to an hour, depending on winds. Either way, you’ll have plenty to time to admire the scenery below you. At one point, we even saw a wild animal scurry in the desert. After you land, you’ll get to have a champagne toast – a longtime tradition celebrated after a balloon ride.

“It’s extremely romantic,” said Jason Abbott, director of sales and marketing for Vegas Balloon Rides. “What’s so cool about it is when you get up in the air, it’s kind of surreal. You don’t even feel like you’re moving. It feels like you’re standing still. It’s a unique sense when you’re in a balloon – motionless, but moving.”

The Eiffel Tower Experience: Ooh la la! Experience France in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. While it’s not the real thing, the romance and excitement is just the same. Catch great views nearly 50 stories above the ground. At night, enjoy the vibrant lights as well as awe-inspiring views of McCarran International Airport.

Fountains of Bellagio: Remember back in the day when you used to call the radio station late at night to dedicate a song to your special someone? I remember sitting and hitting the redial button over and over again, just to get past the annoying busy signal. By the time you finally get through to the deejay, it really feels like you’ve won the lottery.

Fast forward 20 years later: Impress your Valentine with one of the most enchanting experiences on the Las Vegas Strip – a lakeside picnic and song dedication at the Fountains of Bellagio. For a few moments, you get to be in control of the world-famous attraction by selecting two songs of your choice. Sip champagne while enjoying the best view in the house from Prime Steakhouse’s lakeside balcony. Open exclusively to Pearl Tier M Life members, call (702) 693-7111 for eligibility.

Flightlinez at Fremont Street Experience: If you want to “breeze” through Downtown’s Fremont Street Experience, Flightlinez is the way to go. My sweetie and I happened to catch this ride at dusk during a Viva Vision canopy show. We got to take an exhilarating ride right beneath the bright neon lights. For a few seconds, I forgot I was zooming many feet above my fellow bystanders from looking up that the scenery above me.

Mandalay Bay Shark Reef: If you have a scuba license, then you’re in luck. Dive with the sharks and experience the ultimate dream date with your thrillseeking lover. Swim with sand tiger, sandbar and whitetip reef sharks. These sea creatures may look scary, but you won’t have to worry. After your swim, cuddle up in your hotel room and relive the adrenaline rush while watching your keepsake DVD. This is available to Gold Tier M Life members. You must be scuba-certified. Call (702) 632-7777 for details.

Wine not?

This Valentine’s Day, take your date behind the bar and learn how to make the perfect, romantic cocktail together. During your master mixing, savor several delectable libations as you learn the craft and the history of American mixology from Monte Carlo’s Beverage Director Michael MacDonnell. This offer is open to M Life members. For more information, call Monte Carlo for details.

Valentine’s Day is more than just gifts and a nice dinner. While these are equally important, a date of a lifetime will leave a lasting impression.

Most folks take their Vegas jackpot winnings back home, but my dad decided to stay here instead. That’s how I left Seattle almost 20 years ago. I moved from greenery and rainy days to hot summers, palm trees and desert. As much as I love my hometown, I decided to stick around Vegas. This city just has so much to offer. You don’t even have to be a gambler, bar hopper or an all-night partier. I love Vegas for its awesome vegan-friendly spots, concerts, swanky hotel suites and spas so big, they’re like castles. The pool scene is not too shabby either, which is why I love taking stay-cations. Besides living it up -- Vegas style -- I’m hanging out with my handsome hubby, adorable baby girl, two cats and super-fluffy Shih-Tzu. I’m also a huge fan of '90s music, shows and movies. You can find me on Google+ and Twitter.
