Strip forecast, Purple Reign

Purple Reign front man Jason TennerBeginning Sept. 4, 2009 Prince fans can party like it’s 1999 every weekend at Hooters with “Purple Reign – The Ultimate Prince Tribute Show.” The show starts at 11 p.m. and pays homage to the artist Prince and his role in the movie “Purple Reign.” The group performs all of Prince’s greatest hits including “When Doves Cry,” “1999” and “Kiss.”

“This show made me remember the ’80s when I had long flowing hair and wore ruffled shirts.” said Gary Gregg, Head Hooter and COO. “Seriously, these guys are great! Watching them is as good as…if not better than the real deal.”

Front man Jason Tenner founded the group in 1997. He was already in a ’70s tribute band at the time and got the idea to form Purple Reign after dressing up like Prince for Halloween. What started as a popular bar act at the UNLV college club Tom & Jerry’s soon moved on to performing in venues throughout Vegas.

Purple Reign received national recognition in 2008 when they were the first ever Prince tribute act featured as a special guest on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” The following year Purple Reign was voted as the “Best Tribute Act” in a local Las Vegas newspaper poll.

Prior to their move to Hooters Purple Reign performed on Sunday nights at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. Their new show will have fans singing out “Let’s Go Crazy.”
