Life is Beautiful revs up

Life is Beautiful is back, and more beautiful than ever. Not just on the outside, but on the inside where your mom says it counts. The celebration of music, art and food runs Oct. 24 – 26 in downtown Las Vegas. Here are some of the highlights of this year’s festival:

The Music
Obviously. What’s a music festival without music? And the lineup is as exciting as it is diverse with 70 acclaimed artists on four stages over three days including Kanye West, Outkast, Skrillex, Neon Trees, The Flaming Lips and Foo Fighters. Plus, The Roots, Rusty Maples, Arctic Monkeys, Fitz & The Tantrums and Phantogram. You can even party all night long with Lionel Richie. Well maybe not all night. This isn’t Coachella. Check out the full schedule.

The Art
Crowds at the inaugural Life is Beautiful were blown away by the large-scale murals that suddenly popped up, converting downtown into a live urban gallery within the festival’s footprint. Tourists and locals alike have been able to enjoy them well beyond the festival. This year, there will be more murals. Oh, yes, there will be more. There’s also a first-class gallery art program set to take over the Western Hotel on Fremont Street. Together the festival’s art programming brings together more than 35 artists from around the globe.

The Speakers
More than 40 people who are considered influencers and visionaries will spread their knowledge during 90-minute themed and moderated sessions. By influencers, we don’t mean the childhood friend who convinced you to jump off the roof of your house in the swimming pool. And by visionaries, we don’t mean the guy on the street corner who screams at the wall. We mean entrepreneurs, bioengineers, television hosts, authors, photographers and CEOs. People like political activists Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alekhina of Pussy Riot, who were imprisoned in Russia and are now on a mission to spread awareness about those deprived of liberty. Others include TV host Ricki Lake (Go Ricki!), Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh, and the Life is Beautiful founder himself, Rehan Choudry.

The Food
You can get nachos and funnel cakes at the Life is Cholesterol festival. At Life is Beautiful, you’ll find delicacies like creamy corn soup with duck confit ravioli from Hubert Keller and shrimp hot dogs topped with chipotle aioli, cabbage slaw and togarashi chips created by celebrity chef Rick Moonen.
