Celine Dion has returned to Vegas and all we can say is… You have to see this show. OK, we can say a lot more than that, but if you take away anything from reading this, it should be that Celine’s Vegas show is back, revamped and better than ever.
Celine last performed in Vegas in 2014. She has been on a year-long hiatus, helping her husband Rene Angelil who is battling throat cancer. In a press conference prior to taking the Vegas stage, the singing sensation noted “I sang [my songs], but now I mean them.” And boy, we could feel the emotion behind every single note.
With her signature grace, Celine captivated the entire Caesars Palace Colosseum last night when she performed an almost flawless show. Perfect except for a comic moment when the show paused for a guitar to be re-tuned, prompting Celine to ad lib a song “We’re gonna tune-a guitar!”
Serenading the audience with more than 20 songs (see below for complete set list), fans sang along to, became mesmerized by and even got a bit misty-eyed to Celine classics including “Because You Loved Me,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Incredible.” Oh, she also sang some duets with Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley… and herself. Yep. You read that correctly. Watch out David Copperfield, Celine pulled off a seriously awesome magic trick last night by fooling the audience with some unexpected holographic action.
At one point, we all thought we were watching Celine sing in a beautiful pink flowing dress. Then, to our delighted surprise, Celine appeared in the audience and made her way to the stage to finish the song, joking that she has performed many duets but this is the first time she has sung with herself. It took everybody a second to realize what was going on, but let’s just sum it up and tell you that it was really cool.
But wait, there’s more! The hologram fun didn’t end there. Celine went on to sing a song with the hologram version of Frank Sinatra and then another with Elvis Presley commenting at the end, “And by the way, who told you Elvis has already left the building?” It was a real musical treat.
With a five-piece horn section and a 16-piece string orchestra included among the 31 musicians that shared the stage with Celine, the singer nailed every song choice. With her song selection and order, she achieved an overall upbeat and we-will-all-be-OK message throughout the show. Adding to her songs were special elements such as video montages of her children, magical lighting effects as well as the awe-striking water element during the ever-enchanting “My Heart Will Go On.” OK, we cried a little. Every single one of our heart strings were pulled during this show.
But back to the show and speaking of enchanting, let’s take a moment to cast light on the star’s dazzling wardrobe. From flowing ball gowns to sassy fringed numbers, Celine strutted some never-before-seen looks and did so in the most glamorous way possible. In one word, her dresses and the way she rocked them were stunning times 10.
With last night’s opening performance as proof, it couldn’t be clearer that Celine is ready for another strong run in her Colosseum home. Welcome back, Celine. You sure do make our sparkling city shine a whole lot brighter.
