All I want … is to see Toad the Wet Sprocket

Remember the early ’90s rock band, Toad the Wet Sprocket? Even if you don’t know them by name, perhaps you remember “All I Want,” the song that goes a little something like this: “All I want is to feel this way, to be this close, to feel the same…”

Honestly, before I checked on YouTube today, I didn’t have a clue who Toad the Wet Sprocket was. But when I found the video for “All I Want,” a wave of nostalgia brought me back to my preteen years. Back then, we couldn’t just Google lyrics and find the band that way. Every time I heard it on the radio or in a department store, it killed me because I didn’t know who sang that song! Almost  two decades later, now I know.

The mellow pop-rock band formed in 1986, but broke up in the late ’90s. In May 2009, they did a reunion tour. The positive crowd response brought them together to tour all summer.

For all you Toad the Wet Sprocket fans, they will be performing a free show at VooDoo Beach at the Rio  hotel tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a performance by a local band.

VooDoo Beach will host poolside shows one Thursday per month now through September. Shows are always free and open to the public, based on capacity. Guests must be at least 21 years old with a valid ID. Other shows include:

  • Thursday, August 27: Nine Days and Marcy Playground
  • Thursday, Sept. 24: The Presidents of the USA and The Ataris

A visit to Rio’s VooDoo Beach may be the perfect way to  jump start your weekend.

Most folks take their Vegas jackpot winnings back home, but my dad decided to stay here instead. That’s how I left Seattle almost 20 years ago. I moved from greenery and rainy days to hot summers, palm trees and desert. As much as I love my hometown, I decided to stick around Vegas. This city just has so much to offer. You don’t even have to be a gambler, bar hopper or an all-night partier. I love Vegas for its awesome vegan-friendly spots, concerts, swanky hotel suites and spas so big, they’re like castles. The pool scene is not too shabby either, which is why I love taking stay-cations. Besides living it up -- Vegas style -- I’m hanging out with my handsome hubby, adorable baby girl, two cats and super-fluffy Shih-Tzu. I’m also a huge fan of '90s music, shows and movies. You can find me on Google+ and Twitter.
