Flowers in the desert

Hot, arid, dusty and lifeless are usually what comes to mind when people think about the desert. Mother Nature is full of surprises. With just the right amount of rain in the winter and early spring months, some desert plants will produce beautiful flowers when the weather is just right. The flowers don’t always bloom at the same time of year because the weather changes.¬†When they do, it’s an awesome sight.

I happened to experience this last weekend when I was hiking at Red Rock Canyon. I went on my hike like any other Saturday morning, and soon I found myself walking on a trail lined with pockets of color. I wasn’t expecting to see bright fuschia flowers and vibrant yellow desert daisies as I made along the rocky path. What a pleasant surprise. Here are photos of the flowers that I saw.
