Hot cocktails to warm your Vegas nights

This is the time of year when everyone understands why we live in Vegas. The air outside is just the right temperature to huddle under a hoodie, sit by a heat lamp and sample some of the best hot cocktails around. So whether you’re here to escape the snow back home, or you’re used to 70 degree winter afternoons, indulge in some warmth and sweetness with these Las Vegas hot cocktails.

The Dirty Girl Scout. Unfortunately not sold door to door.

Before you get too excited, we’re confident that this drink does not come with a merit badge for anything inappropriate. But it is filled with peppermint schnapps and hot chocolate which makes it sort of like a thin mint that got too old for jamborees and started having fun in other ways. If you never felt that you were quite Brownie material, or you were just more likely to ditch class than braid a lanyard, or you’re just really craving some Girl Scout cookies but don’t want to track some down, give the Dirty Girl Scout at Park on Fremont a try.

Sexual Chocolate. Do what you want with the whipped cream.

Chocolate. Sex. More chocolate. It’s the making of a perfect night. But whether you’re sipping with someone you love or enjoying a little alone time, the Sexual Chocolate is the closest you can come to getting frisky at a public bar. Full of Chambord black raspberry liqueur and hot chocolate, this drink will send the heat right where you want it and leave you with a sugar high full of endorphins and vanilla. We like to leave a little room for imagination, but we will say this is the best thing we’ve had in our mouths since that crazy weekend with Johnnie Walker. If you’re looking to snuggle up with someone warm, or just need something to get you through a dry spell, the Sexual Chocolate will get you where you want to go.

Some people like things a little spicier. And we can totally relate to that. For something that will warm your heart and ignite your taste buds, the Chai Me Up, Santa at Cabo Wabo Cantina combines the flavorful sensations of hot chai with Chila ‘Orchata cinnamon cream rum and the welcome intensity of Fireball cinnamon whisky to create a drink that will leave you eager for St. Nick’s arrival. Take the name for whatever you want, just remember, you probably need at least one hand free to sip this delicious drink.

The Griswold. Like a vacation for your tongue. Photo courtesy of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Much like the family from the classic “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” the Griswold at the Boulevard Ice Rink is four complex flavors that come together to create something greater than the sum of its parts. That may seem a little sentimental for a hot cocktail, or for the rest of the naughty things we’ve been mentioning so far, but the way the Wondermint liqueur, hot cocoa, coconut cream and vanilla syrup combine, it’s clear that this is a drink to savor with loved ones on a fantastic outing during the holiday season. Then go back to your room and enjoy yourselves; it is full of liquor after all.

This drink isn’t technically hot in the traditional sense, but those are flaming marshmallows on top, so we figure that’s close enough. Like a s’more in a martini glass, the Campfire Delight squishes together some of the most mouth-melting ingredients like Patron XO Dark Cocoa, toasted marshmallow syrup and RumChata to create the next best thing to shoving your face into the sweet space between the graham crackers and licking out the chocolaty, marshmallowy goodness with your tongue. People might look at you weird if you tried that around the campfire. But when you’re sipping it from a glass and savoring the marshmallows in between gulps, the only thing that’ll be strange is if you don’t order a second round.

I came from a little town in the Midwest. And believe me, I’m never going back. It’s probably nice if you love grass and snow; but I love the lights, the glamour, and the flocks of tourists seeking fun and fortune. Once the sun goes down, I’ll be the first one out hitting the clubs or just wandering the Strip for a little nighttime adventure. Passing through Bond on my way to Lily Bar, or taking a shortcut through Double Helix before landing at Parasol Up/Down, I’m the one you’ll randomly bump into – only sometimes literally – strolling through Sin City’s liquored veins – and loving every minute of it.
