Get your groove on

Calling all aspiring dancers: If dancing is your passion but you haven’t quite grasped the concept of it yet, there’s still hope!

In addition to hosting the Hip Hop International (the annual United States and world hip-hop dance championships), Loews Lake Las Vegas presents “Urban Moves,” a dance workshop featuring some of today’s hottest dancers and choreographers.

Wednesday, July 29th: If you’re as much of a fan of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” and MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” as I am, then you definitely don’t want to miss this. Choreographers and “So You Think You Can Dance” judges Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo bring their lyrical hip-hop techniques to the dance workshop For “America’s Best Dance Crew” fanatics, future B-girls can learn the funky moves of Teresa Espinosa, member of last season’s Beat Freaks. You’ll also have the chance to learn moves from Matt Cody, member of the group Fanny Pak.

Sunday, Aug. 2nd: Shane Sparks, choreographer for the 2004 film, “You Got Served” and judge for “America’s Best Dance Crew” will share his hard-hitting hip-hop moves. For those who truly appreciate the B-boy era of the ’80s, original locker Tony GoGo will share the art and technique of this robotic dance. Celebrity choreographer, Marty Kudelka, who has worked with Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson, will also hold a session on this day.

The price is only $25 per workshop or $65 each day (three workshops). If you’re interested, register online or call (800) 669-5867. Space is limited, so make sure to register early.

The classes should be fun, and you’ll be grooving with dance celebrities. After this class, I’ll make sure to keep an eye out for you as your rip it on the dance floor.

Most folks take their Vegas jackpot winnings back home, but my dad decided to stay here instead. That’s how I left Seattle almost 20 years ago. I moved from greenery and rainy days to hot summers, palm trees and desert. As much as I love my hometown, I decided to stick around Vegas. This city just has so much to offer. You don’t even have to be a gambler, bar hopper or an all-night partier. I love Vegas for its awesome vegan-friendly spots, concerts, swanky hotel suites and spas so big, they’re like castles. The pool scene is not too shabby either, which is why I love taking stay-cations. Besides living it up -- Vegas style -- I’m hanging out with my handsome hubby, adorable baby girl, two cats and super-fluffy Shih-Tzu. I’m also a huge fan of '90s music, shows and movies. You can find me on Google+ and Twitter.
