There’s fun in the snow in Las Vegas

snow-boardPeople may not believe you. They may even call you crazy. But it’s true: Las Vegas has its share of snow in the mountains during the winter months.

You’ll be surprised how many locals spend the day snowboarding, skiing, sledding and tubing. And since it’s only 30 to 45 minutes from the Strip, you can definitely squeeze in some snow time for yourself.

Open daily from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort is fun for all ages. Located at Mount Charleston’s Lee Canyon area, the resort offers trails fit for all levels.  There are 40 acres of ski terrain (with the longest trail at 3,000 feet) and 30 acres of snowboarding terrain. Snowboarding is really popular at Lee Canyon.  Adventurous types can check out the Darkside Terrain Parks, which offer table-top jumps and assorted rails.

Don’t worry about hauling all of your gear to Vegas — rentals are available. Snowboard and boot rental for one day is only $35. And if you worked up an appetite, there is a café located at the base lodge.

If you’re coming from the Strip, take the I-15 freeway to US 95, heading north. Drive approximately 30 miles to Highway 156 (Lee Canyon). Stay on this road 17 miles to the resort.

You hear all the time about the city’s trendy nightclubs, malls on the Strip and fancy restaurants. Surprise your friends with a story about your time in the mountains instead. See you on the slopes!

Most folks take their Vegas jackpot winnings back home, but my dad decided to stay here instead. That’s how I left Seattle almost 20 years ago. I moved from greenery and rainy days to hot summers, palm trees and desert. As much as I love my hometown, I decided to stick around Vegas. This city just has so much to offer. You don’t even have to be a gambler, bar hopper or an all-night partier. I love Vegas for its awesome vegan-friendly spots, concerts, swanky hotel suites and spas so big, they’re like castles. The pool scene is not too shabby either, which is why I love taking stay-cations. Besides living it up -- Vegas style -- I’m hanging out with my handsome hubby, adorable baby girl, two cats and super-fluffy Shih-Tzu. I’m also a huge fan of '90s music, shows and movies. You can find me on Google+ and Twitter.

Very informative text. I’ve found your site via Bing and I’m really glad about the information you provide in your articles. Btw your blogs layout is really broken on the Kmelon browser. Would be great if you could fix that. Anyhow keep up the great work!
