The King of Pop lives on in Vegas

PYT. You Rock My World. Billie Jean. Butterflies. Bad. Remember the Time.

These are just a few of my favorite Michael Jackson songs. The list goes on and on and I’m sure many of you have a handful of favorites with memories behind each of them too. From hiding behind my grandpa because I was scared of the “Thriller” video to watching my mom jam to “Billie Jean,” my earliest memories of him go all the way back to my toddler years. For the past two decades, I’ve been a huge fan of his music and definitely his dance moves.

When I heard the news yesterday afternoon, my heart dropped. I refused to believe it. I’m still in shock that one of the biggest icons in music history is gone. But while his passing is going to take some time for us to accept, a great thing about living (or coming to) in Vegas is that his legacy lives on.

At Madame Tussauds inside the Venetian, fans can see and take pictures with Michael Jackson’s wax figure. In memory of the legendary pop star, the staff placed his figure right in front of the  museum for all to see.

They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, so why not enjoy seeing a talented Michael Jackson impersonator in American Superstars at the Stratosphere? And while I  know it’s not the same thing like watching MJ in person, the performer’s vocals and dance moves will definitely keep you entertained. You’ll find yourself singing Michael songs long after the show is over and probably  attempt some of his signature dance moves when no one is looking!

Fremont Street Experience paid tribute to Michael Jackson last night by featuring a visual display on the Viva Vision canopy. This is the first time Fremont Street Experience paid a tribute  to a star on the same day of their passing.  For those who missed the show last night, visitors can see it tonight after the 8:30 p.m. Viva Vision show. For the latest information on Michael Jackson show times this weekend, please call (702) 678-5777.

Harry O’s Restaurant (3355 Spring Mountain Road between Polaris Avenue and Highland Drive) is holding a Michael Jackson vigil tonight at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear a white glove in honor of him. Those attending will also see unique Jackson memorabilia throughout the restaurant.

Venues on the Strip are paying tribute to the pop superstar. Tonight at  Krave inside Planet Hollywood, the club will feature a Michael Jackson video tribute. If you plan on rocking the dance floor tonight, I’m almost positive the DJ will be playing some of Jackson’s timeless upbeat hits.

I’m also looking forward to watching Maxwell (one of my favorite R&B singers) live tonight. Since Jackson was such a heavy influence in the R&B scene, I’m crossing my fingers that Maxwell will sing a song in his memory.

Words can’t even begin to express how shocked and saddened I am by his passing. He left this world too soon. But we can  all celebrate the musical influence he left behind. So as I jam to “PYT” for the millionth time today, I’ll remember to keep that in mind.

Most folks take their Vegas jackpot winnings back home, but my dad decided to stay here instead. That’s how I left Seattle almost 20 years ago. I moved from greenery and rainy days to hot summers, palm trees and desert. As much as I love my hometown, I decided to stick around Vegas. This city just has so much to offer. You don’t even have to be a gambler, bar hopper or an all-night partier. I love Vegas for its awesome vegan-friendly spots, concerts, swanky hotel suites and spas so big, they’re like castles. The pool scene is not too shabby either, which is why I love taking stay-cations. Besides living it up -- Vegas style -- I’m hanging out with my handsome hubby, adorable baby girl, two cats and super-fluffy Shih-Tzu. I’m also a huge fan of '90s music, shows and movies. You can find me on Google+ and Twitter.
