Take a sweet trip through Lover’s Lane

ethelsIt’s hard to visit places that are free these days, let alone romantic.

So you can only imagine how happyI was to hear that the Ethel M Chocolate Factory and Desert Botanical Gardens was going to do something to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

If you’re a fan of Ethel’s cactus garden holiday lights display, then this is something you should definitely check out. For the first time ever, the cactus garden transforms into the beautifully illuminated Lover’s Lane. During Valentine’s Day weekend (Feb. 12-14), stroll through the twinkling red, white and pink lights in the three-acre cactus garden. Stop by the gazebo to share a quiet moment. If you’re lucky, someone might be around to snap a picture of you and your sweetie. (When I’m here, I’ll probably make my boyfriend do a “prom style” pose with me.)

Just steps away at the chocolate factory, you can enjoy hand-dipped chocolate covered strawberries or a hot cup of Cupid’s Cocoa. The comfortable setting of Ethel’s lounge inside the factory is the perfect place to spend quality time with your loved one.

If you want to bring something back with you, Valentine’s Day boxed sets are available. Presented in a heart-shaped box, the chocolate flavors include lemon satin creme, almond butter krisp, raspberry ganache, tiramisu and my personal favorite, the heart-shaped lemon caramel heart drenched in white chocolate — my three favorite flavors combined!

There are three sizes available. You can purchase 20 pieces ($28), 33 pieces ($40) or 53 pieces ($55). I’m thinking of customizing my own box, which will be strictly lemon caramel heart chocolates. There are other Valentine’s Day options available, such chocolate hearts and chocolate strawberries, to name a couple.

Lover’s Lane stays open until 10 p.m. and the chocolate factory stays open until 8 p.m.

Most folks take their Vegas jackpot winnings back home, but my dad decided to stay here instead. That’s how I left Seattle almost 20 years ago. I moved from greenery and rainy days to hot summers, palm trees and desert. As much as I love my hometown, I decided to stick around Vegas. This city just has so much to offer. You don’t even have to be a gambler, bar hopper or an all-night partier. I love Vegas for its awesome vegan-friendly spots, concerts, swanky hotel suites and spas so big, they’re like castles. The pool scene is not too shabby either, which is why I love taking stay-cations. Besides living it up -- Vegas style -- I’m hanging out with my handsome hubby, adorable baby girl, two cats and super-fluffy Shih-Tzu. I’m also a huge fan of '90s music, shows and movies. You can find me on Google+ and Twitter.
