Not too much longer ’til you can zip it in Las Vegas

UPDATE: September 25, 2013 — VooDoo ZipLine has announced it will open in early November.

It looks like VooDoo Zip Line at the Rio Hotel and Casino is zipping closer to an opening date. The attraction recently launched a campaign offering a variety of ride packages through the fundraising website Indiegogo.

“As a special thank you to our supporters, we have created exclusive pre-sale packages, unlimited weekend ride passes, and even an exclusive quantity of lifetime passes for the VooDoo Zip Line,” the campaign team, Jonathan Borchetta and Joe Shortal, wrote on their fundraising page. Borchetta, Shortal and Stan Checketts own New Capital Ventures, the Las Vegas-based startup backing the ride.

Packages, which are being offered for purchase on Indiegogo through November 1, 2013,  include a $25 pre-sale and ride photo package, a $50 unlimited weekend pass and a $125 lifetime pass.

Additionally, the zip line is offering a $3,000 New Year’s Eve Midnight Ride and Bottle Service Package that would allow purchasers to ring in 2014 on the ride while fireworks explode in the distance. This package includes two ride passes, two New Year’s Eve admissions to VooDoo Nightclub at the Rio, one VIP table with bottle service and two photo packages.

Although the VooDoo Zip Line campaign is posted on a fundraising website, Borchetta noted on the campaign announcement page that VooDoo Zip Line is a fully funded project. It appears the team is using Indiegogo as a vehicle to sell special ride packages.

VooDoo Zip Line will launch from VooDoo Lounge at the Rio hotel offering 360-degree open-air views  of the Vegas valley while accommodating two riders round-trip. The ride, which is reminiscent of a ski lift, will travel both forward and backwards nearly one-third of a mile at 33 miles per hour.

An opening date has not yet been announced, but November is the estimated delivery date for pre-purchased packages.
