Las Vegas’ Cosmopolitan shares a new kind of cool with ice rink opening

The Boulevard Pool at The Cosmopolitan will transform to The Ice Rink on Friday, Nov. 30 (photos will be available in coming weeks).

The Ice Rink at The Cosmopolitan’s Boulevard Pool is about to bring a fresh type of cool to the Strip. Shall we say, Coolmopolitan?

Opening Friday, Nov. 30, The Cosmopolitan  transforms the iconic Boulevard Pool into a winter wonderland. In addition to spectacular views of the Las Vegas Strip, you’ll get to enjoy skating on real ice, custom-designed fire pits, warm cocktails, s’mores and a lot more.

The Ice Rink combines a playful, yet luxurious atmosphere, creating an original winter retreat.  This unique experience allows you to enjoy the brisk outdoors amongst fire pits and picnic tables while you sample hot drinks and bites and skate on real ice with your pals. Who says you have to be in Aspen?

The Boulevard Pool has also hosted numerous events, like movie screenings and nighttime concerts. One of my favorite nights from last summer was Aloe Blacc’s soulful set. While the warm, summer nights won’t be back for a while, I’m excited for all the winter festivities. The Ice Rink will offer “Date Skate Mondays,” where you and your date can enjoy a night out skating while holiday movies play on the hotel’s 65-foot digital marquee. And if you’re the dancing type, every Wednesday you’ll groove to live DJ-spun music. I like to call it nightlife on ice. And finally, “Throwback Thursdays” gives you the chance to pack your bright coats and leg warmers as you skate the night away to music from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s.

A full bar will also be available, including The Ice Rink’s signature cocktail, The Campfire Delight (seen at right), along with warm and savory food options. Last summer I enjoyed the spiked popsicles from Neapolitan Bar, so this will be a fun change-up!

The Ice Rink will be open from Friday, Nov. 30 through Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013.  Hours of operation are Monday – Friday from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Holiday Hours from Dec. 24 – Jan. 4 are 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. daily.  All-day skating access is $10 for Nevada residents and $15 for non-residents.  Visitors to The Ice Rink are allowed to bring their own skates, or you can rent a pair for $5.  The Ice Rink is open to those that are at least 2 years old and children age 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult that is at least 21 years old.  Admission to the unique winter atmosphere surrounding The Ice Rink is free.  The Ice Rink will be closed on New Year’s Eve.

Get ready to bundle up for this icy adventure — the holiday season is already here and this is one Vegas treat you’ll want to warm up to.

Recipe for Camp Fire Delight:

Dip the rim of the martini glass in chocolate, then dip the chocolate rim into smashed up graham crackers.  Top with a skewer of flaming marshmallows. Voila!

Most folks take their Vegas jackpot winnings back home, but my dad decided to stay here instead. That’s how I left Seattle almost 20 years ago. I moved from greenery and rainy days to hot summers, palm trees and desert. As much as I love my hometown, I decided to stick around Vegas. This city just has so much to offer. You don’t even have to be a gambler, bar hopper or an all-night partier. I love Vegas for its awesome vegan-friendly spots, concerts, swanky hotel suites and spas so big, they’re like castles. The pool scene is not too shabby either, which is why I love taking stay-cations. Besides living it up -- Vegas style -- I’m hanging out with my handsome hubby, adorable baby girl, two cats and super-fluffy Shih-Tzu. I’m also a huge fan of '90s music, shows and movies.
