A wild (cat) birthday party!

Today at Mirage’s Secret Garden I had the awesome opportunity to attend the wildest birthday party ever:  It was for the tiger cubs’ first birthday bash!

Sister tigers Star, Celestial, Chakra and Cosmo, along with brother Svengali, were born April 29, 2008 at an average of two pounds each. Today, the average weight for each tiger is an astounding 160 pounds. I’m pretty sure they’re getting all the protein they need.

In the cubs’ grassy play area, the staff brought several gift wrapped boxes for the cubs to “open” and play with. Some of the cubs shook the boxes wildly and dragged them across the grass. Others took their gift to the corner and worked on unwrapping it. It was fun to watch how excited these cubs were over their “presents.”

Siegfried and Roy made a special appearance and sang a birthday song to the cubs while holding on to a festive cake with little tiger decorations on it. Too cute — this event made me want to throw a party for my cats at home.

Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden is open 11 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. On weekends and holidays, the attraction is open at 10 a.m. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 4-12. To learn more about the Secret Garden as well as the Dolphin Habitat next door, click here.

Happy birthday cubs! Hope you enjoyed your cake and presents.

Most folks take their Vegas jackpot winnings back home, but my dad decided to stay here instead. That’s how I left Seattle almost 20 years ago. I moved from greenery and rainy days to hot summers, palm trees and desert. As much as I love my hometown, I decided to stick around Vegas. This city just has so much to offer. You don’t even have to be a gambler, bar hopper or an all-night partier. I love Vegas for its awesome vegan-friendly spots, concerts, swanky hotel suites and spas so big, they’re like castles. The pool scene is not too shabby either, which is why I love taking stay-cations. Besides living it up -- Vegas style -- I’m hanging out with my handsome hubby, adorable baby girl, two cats and super-fluffy Shih-Tzu. I’m also a huge fan of '90s music, shows and movies. You can find me on Google+ and Twitter.
