Must dos this weekend in Vegas: Oct. 16 – 18, 2015

Vegas is always the place you want to be, and this weekend is no different because we’re bursting with all kinds of opportunities for you to get drunk and disorderly. Since the weather is cooling down to a balmy 90 degrees, outdoor events no longer require a serious pregame with zinc oxide (unless you’re a ginger like me, then start slathering). From food and beer festivals to singing along to island tunes or rock ballads, you’ll be swaying from side-to-side in no time. Yeah, that may also be the booze but nobody’s judging. So which plans do you want to knock out first? We suggest a little game called “eeny meeny miny moe.”

Eat your heart out

Is it just us, or is everybody calling themselves a foodie these days? At least now you have a legitimate reason. The Great American Foodie Fest at Sunset Station is hosting 50 of the country’s top food trucks and vendors October 15 – 18. Some of which have even been featured on the Food Network, the Cooking Channel and the Travel Channel. Food selections will range from sushi and burgers, to seafood and barbeque. But what will you do when you’re not gorging yourself? We’re glad you asked. There are carnival rides, which we highly recommend you do before you eat, midway games, a beer garden, vendors and more. Presale tickets are only going to set you back eight bucks for a four-day pass, and are $10 at the door.

Jimmy Buffet

Sip piña coladas because it’s 5:00 somewhere

Listen up Parrotheads, the ultimate island guru Jimmy Buffet is bringing a little bit of the tropics to the desert with a one-night special event at the MGM Grand Saturday night. Hawaiian shirts and miles of sandy beaches may not be included in the ticket price, but we’re willing to bet an appendage they’ll be serving killer margaritas and piña coladas. It’s hard to argue with the fact that Buffet has a cross-generational appeal, how many people do you know that don’t like sipping frosty beverages in paradise? If you just can’t get enough of the laid back beach mentality, Buffett’s Margaritaville is always on island time. They’re hosting a pool party at the Flamingo the day of the concert and DJ Crowne Ave will get the party started at their Las Vegas Strip location after the concert.

Shoptoberfest Beer Festival

How many times have you been shopping and thought: “I wish I had a beer in my hand?” If you’re like us, that’s pretty much every time we choose the cart with the wonkie wheel. Luckily for us, the Miracle Mile Shops heard our cursing – I mean prayers and are hosting a Shoptoberfest every Friday and Saturday in October. This indoor beer festival is combining all of our guilty pleasures: food, booze and lots of shopping specials and discounts. Buy a mug for five bucks at Blondies Sports Bar & Grill, and fill it up throughout the Miracle Mile Shops for $2. There are $5 food specials and tons of discounts at more than 15 retail stores like Steven madden, True Religion and Chinese Laundry.

Get “Baptized” with Daughtry

Guess who made it so big they’re currently traveling the world like the rock stars they are? Chris Daughtry has come a long way since his fourth place finish on “American Idol.” The band is currently jet setting around the world on a multi-country tour and is stopping at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center Saturday night. The multi-platinum rock band sold more than 1 million albums with its self-titled debut album in the first few weeks of its release. It quickly made it to the top of the Billboard charts and was the fastest-selling debut rock album in Soundscan’s history. We’re secretly hoping Daughtry will rock out to early singles like “It’s Not over” and “Home” so we can pretend we’re as young as we were when they came out 10 years ago.

The reigning comediennes Roseanne Barr and Margaret Cho.

Laugh until it hurts

Here’s to hoping the only stitches you’ll get this weekend are from the bellyaches of the comediennes headlining on the Las Vegas Strip. The psyCHO Tour is making a stop in Vegas for a special one-night performance starring none other than Margaret Cho at Treasure Island. She’s written all new material that will make you laugh until it hurts and will prove why she’s a three-time Grammy and Emmy nominee. Across the street at the Venetian’s Sands Showroom, best-selling author and chronic presidential hopeful Roseanne Barr will be headlining the Lipshtick comedy series. Don’t even pretend like you didn’t watch all nine seasons of her Emmy Award-winning sitcom “Roseanne” because we’re still watching the reruns. She was the original domestic diva and we couldn’t be happier to see her returning to her stand-up roots.

Born a Buckeye - raised a Hoosier. I grew up in a one-horse town that straddles the Indiana/Ohio state line and until 2006, was in two different time zones. There were three stoplights and a whopping 48 students in my graduating class. Fast forward a few years later, I was bitten by the travel bug and decided to head west. It seems like no matter how long I live here, there’s always something that still makes my jaw drop. That’s what I love about Vegas; you never know what you’re going to see next and that’s what makes living here so much fun. Basically, if you’re bored in this town, there’s something wrong with you…not the city. I’m an avid traveler with an incurable case of wanderlust so stay tuned for all the tours, attractions and shopping adventures that Sin City has to offer.
