Must dos this weekend in Vegas: Jan. 23 – 25, 2015

This weekend is a bit all over the place. Outstanding music comes to the Strip, while hilarious comedy lands on the Strip and downtown. One side of Las Vegas Boulevard has good-natured artistry fit for the whole family, while the other side is much dirtier, much more adult and definitely not for kids or grandma and grandpa— unless you’re into that. So if it feels like a bit of a roller coaster, that’s pretty understandable. Just hang on, or throw your hands in the air, and have fun.

Frank: The Man. The Music

When: Premieres Jan. 24

Where: The Palazzo Theatre at the Palazzo Hotel and Casino

This theatrical production is the epitome of class. Celebrating the life and legacy of Frank Sinatra, the Palazzo has created a show that authentically and respectfully brings Frank’s songs and styling back to life through live performance. But what can we really say that isn’t better said by singing legend, and Sinatra contemporary, Tony Bennett? “A perfect night. Like seeing Sinatra at his best. Frank would have loved it.”

The only picture we could find of Daniel Tosh in which he wasn't doing something weird. Photo courtesy of Daniel Tosh.

Daniel Tosh

When: Jan. 23, Jan. 24

Where: Terry Fator Theatre at the Mirage

You don’t have to be a moderately drunk college student to appreciate the quick wit and at times abrasive humor of Daniel Tosh, but it helps. Even if you don’t fit that key demographic, Tosh’s long-winded delivery and hilarious vision of society make him an intriguing and dynamic performer. But you probably just know him as the guy who makes fun of idiots on the internet on Comedy Central’s “Tosh.0.” If you love criticism of social foibles through insult and keen observation, or you just really want to laugh at the people being mocked, Daniel Tosh will be at The Mirage for your enjoyment.

This is why we hate trying to find pictures of comedians. Photo by Gabriel Gastelum Photography. Photo courtesy of Miranda Sings.

Miranda Sings

When: Jan. 24, Jan. 25

Where: Plaza Hotel and Casino

Call her a web celebrity or a YouTube sensation, but however you view her Miranda Sings is an internet icon with a bold attitude and self-certain style. We thought “self-certain” was the nice way to say jokingly narcissistic. From comedy to music to magic and more, Miranda Sings makes confident attempts at entertainment that somehow manage to entertain. When you want to laugh, and maybe cringe a little, Miranda Sings at the Plaza is a show for the performer in all of us—no haters!

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

When: Jan. 20 – Jan. 25

Where: The Smith Center for the Performing Arts

Away from the Las Vegas Strip, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts delivers some of the finest performances in the area. In addition to a wealth of shows and concerts, The Smith Center will be presenting the classic musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. This family-friendly show tells the story of Joseph, his life in Israel and his coat of many colors. If you’re in Las Vegas with family, or you just want something wholesome and endearing, The Smith Center and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” are sure to please.

Hey look! We found a picture of the AVN Awards that we can actually post! Photo courtesy of the AVN Awards.

AVN Adult Entertainment Expo and Awards

When: Jan. 21 – Jan. 24

Where: The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino

Now we’re going to take a pretty hard 180 from the last option and mention the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo and Awards at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. You can make up your own joke that includes the words “hard” and “rock.” Bringing together the biggest names and brightest stars of the adult entertainment industry, the AEE is the festival celebrating the business of adult videos and products (that means porn and toys, just in case your head is still spinning) culminating with an awards show honoring the best performances of the year. Throughout the weekend, parties, exhibitions, promotions and so much more will satisfy every tawdry thought you ever had about adult entertainment. Whether you admit to being a fan of adult entertainment, or you just want to claim you wandered in by accident and totally thought you were buying a neck massager for your wife, the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo and Awards will be the hottest party scene this weekend. But take our advice: don’t bring a black light. You’re better off not knowing.

I came from a little town in the Midwest. And believe me, I’m never going back. It’s probably nice if you love grass and snow; but I love the lights, the glamour, and the flocks of tourists seeking fun and fortune. Once the sun goes down, I’ll be the first one out hitting the clubs or just wandering the Strip for a little nighttime adventure. Passing through Bond on my way to Lily Bar, or taking a shortcut through Double Helix before landing at Parasol Up/Down, I’m the one you’ll randomly bump into – only sometimes literally – strolling through Sin City’s liquored veins – and loving every minute of it.
