OK, we get it. The world has all but stopped turning on its axis because a little film called “Star Wars” is really all that is important at the moment. Heard of it? Right now, even though words like Stormtrooper and Jedi are more common that established words in Webster’s and seeing lightsabers in public is normal, here in Vegas, we are still partying like it isn’t the opening weekend of a kind of epic film.
If you’re reading this from a tent you’ve pitched with pride outside of your local movie theater, well, your weekend plans are clearly already set, however, if you do not plan to live, eat and breathe “Star Wars” for the next week, we have selected some of the best things for you to do in Vegas this weekend. May the Sin City force be with you.
Ultimo – A Weekend of Excellence
Dec. 17 – 20, 2015
That grumbling sound is either Jabba the Hutt or your stomach in anticipation for the Venetian and Palazzo’s biggest culinary event of the year. Ultimo – A weekend of Excellence is one of the world’s most renowned culinary events and is taking place this weekend in the Entertainment Capital of the World.
Guests cannot only expect entertainment for their taste buds, but singing sensation Christina Grimmie will be the live entertainment for the evening. Best known for her time as a contestant on “The Voice” and now a national star having opened up for major acts including Selena Gomez, Grimmie will make the foodie experience all the more enjoyable.
The Grand Banquet celebrating famed chefs including Thomas Keller, Philip Tessier, Shaun Hergatt and Ming Tsai will take place on Friday Dec. 18 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. inside the stunning Grand Colonnade and will feature an extravagant European-inspired dinner with opulent culinary and drink pairings. With just a handful of tickets remaining for the Team USA selection event the prestigious Bocuse d’Or competition and the Farewell Truffle Brunch, don’t miss you chance to be a part of this culinary event.
December 18 – 20 at 7 p.m.
Your head may be in the stars but alas, it is still the holiday season and by golly, we will be embracing the spirit… after all, this time of year is a rare occasion too. One show that we just can’t get enough of year round is Human Nature but during the holidays we love them even more due to their seasonal set list that’s charming enough to crack a holiday grin on even the scroogiest of Ebenezers.
Singing an array of holiday favorites including “White Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland” and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” in perfect (like literally perfect) harmony, you will certainly want to check out Human Nature’s holiday show before time runs out.
Rock of Ages
December 17 – 20 at 8 p.m.
Over holiday music and don’t really care about “Star Wars?” Cool. You’ll definitely want to stop by Rock of Ages at the Venetian for an evening of entertainment that won’t entice the sound of sleigh bells or lightsabers to make a cameo in your dreams.
A show that takes you back to the days of good ol’ sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll, Rock of Ages takes you back to the days of hedonism where big bands had big egos, big hair and played big guitar solos. So complete is the experience that for 90 minutes, you’ll believe it’s 1987, Ronald Reagan is president, leather miniskirts and jean jackets are cool, mullets are a fashionable hair style, and bands like Poison, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Whitesnake and Journey are climbing the Billboard charts. Nearing their farewell performance as they part ways with the Venetian, you’ll definitely want to experience this show in the Venetian theater before they hit the road and head to the Rio Las Vegas.
Luke, I Am Your Lobster
December 18th from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.
Hey, all you lobster-eating Lukes out there; this is your lucky day! To celebrate the “Star Wars” frenzy, Luke’s Lobster, home of New York’s best lobster roll, is offering everyone named Luke a free lobster roll on Friday. If your name is Luke or Lucas, head over to Luke’s Lobster shack at Fashion Show mall and present your ID… the first 25 Lukes will get their grub on for free! Looks like the force is with you after all.
Santa is in Town (Square)
Be sure to say hello to Santa before he returns to the North Pole! Posted up and spreading Christmas cheer at Town Square, Santa is hanging out and ready to hear the holiday wishes of those young and old. After you stop by his workshop, pick up some hot chocolate and take to the streets of the outdoor shopping center to enjoy the festive décor, music and holiday ambiance… bonus points to you if you score some nice holiday goodies for yourself and others.
Oh, and of course, once all of your shopping is done, perhaps you’ll be in the mood to catch a screening of “Star Wars” at the Town Square movie theater.
