Must dos this weekend in Vegas: August 7 – 9, 2015

This week boldly takes Vegas to places it’s, well, been lots of times before but still loves to keep going. We almost made it through that sentence without a split infinitive – true Trekkers will get that. If you’re a geek who just can’t miss out on an opportunity to meet your hero, this is the weekend for you. And, if you’re not a Trekker and don’t give a damn about the fact that George Takei will be signing autographs, then you can still drink, dance and all around rock out this weekend.

International Beer Day

When: Thursday, August 6, 2015 @ 6 – 8 p.m. and all day Friday, August 7, 2015
Where: Ri Ra Irish Pub and pretty much anywhere else they sell beer

In case anyone reading this was unfamiliar, we like beer. We like beer a lot. We like beer so much we’ll even be doing an entire #Vegaschat on Twitter about it this week. So it’s probably not a shock to you that we’re pretty excited for International Beer Day. Sure, it’s more or less a made up holiday, but, ya know, so? What makes Valentine’s Day so great? At least this made up holiday has beer. Friday, which is the actual holiday, will have beer deals through the city. But one establishment decided to jump the mug and hold a special event on Thursday evening. Ri Ra Irish Pub, already one of our favorites, is hosting a #RiRaBeerDay party, which includes a free pint, appetizers and more. The first 15 people to attend will also get a free beer flight. But be sure to RSVP or you might not get a spot.

Friday Night Live at the Pool with the Wailers with Through the Roots

When: Friday, August 7, 2015 @ 8 p.m.
Where: Hard Rock Hotel’s JBL Soundstage

The legendary reggae band formed and fronted by Bob Marley, returns to Vegas this weekend as a part of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s Friday Night live at the Pool concert series. The Hard Rock pool area is the ideal space for the smooth sound of the Wailers. Along with Through the Roots, a musical group from California who espouse the easy-listening Cali style, the Wailers will have the whole space swaying like never before. This is obviously the show for fans of reggae, but it’s also the show for fans of all-around good music and a laid-back atmosphere.

NERVO’s Haute Mess Residency Kick-Off

When: Saturday, August 8, 2015 @ 10:30 a.m.
Where: Foxtail Pool Club at SLS Las Vegas

In a bit of a contrast to the last entry, but not really since they both include awesome music, the Aussie dance music duo NERVO will start their two-month residency this weekend at Foxtail Pool Club. The two sisters, Mim and Liv, have already crafted a stellar career penning hits for Kelly Rowland and David Guetta and more. They’re the highest ranking female DJs in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs poll. And they’ve rocked stages across the world, including Vegas’ own EDC. We’re only sort of trying to impress you. Mainly we’re trying to make sure you know what you’re in for when you hit up Foxtail this weekend. Their new album “Haute Mess” dropped a few weeks ago. And their residency is going to be haute, hot and every other spelling you can find. This is where you need to be if you love poolside dancing and supporting the women of EDM.

Boys of Zummer Tour with Fall Out Boy and Wiz Khalifa

When: Friday, August 7, 2015 @ 7 p.m.
Where: Mandalay Bay Events Center

To keep the rocking going strong, Mandalay Bay is bringing in pop-punks Fall Out Boy and rapper/songwriter Wiz Khalifa for a concert sure to get you pumped for the rest of your Friday night. The tour is crossing the country headed by Fall Out Boy and Hoodie Allen joins in. This show is for everyone who enjoys some upbeat tunes and probably a little recreational awesomeness. And if you need another reason to check it out, it’s the perfect way to have an early pregame before hitting up Wiz’s DJ set as DJ Daddy Kat at Tao Nightclub.

I came from a little town in the Midwest. And believe me, I’m never going back. It’s probably nice if you love grass and snow; but I love the lights, the glamour, and the flocks of tourists seeking fun and fortune. Once the sun goes down, I’ll be the first one out hitting the clubs or just wandering the Strip for a little nighttime adventure. Passing through Bond on my way to Lily Bar, or taking a shortcut through Double Helix before landing at Parasol Up/Down, I’m the one you’ll randomly bump into – only sometimes literally – strolling through Sin City’s liquored veins – and loving every minute of it.
