Must dos this weekend in Vegas: April 28 – May 2

We are just days away from the long awaited welterweight world championship unification bout between Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. and Manny “Pac-man” Pacquiao. The throwdown that has been claimed to be “The Fight of the Century,” (which we think is quite presumptuous considering that we are only 15 years into the century, but whatever) the MayPacalypse, nonetheless, is fast approaching and Vegas is definitely the hot town to be in for the full-fight experience. And more specifically, the MGM Grand is really the place to be since that is where the brawl is taking place.

If you’re one of the lucky 500 general public ticket holders who somehow managed to scoop up a ticket sometime within the two minutes in which they sold out and you have your party plan all squared away, then hey, you know exactly what you’ll be doing and where you will be doing it this weekend. But for those of you who will not be attending the boxing match because you blinked and the tickets were gone, we have the inside scoop for you on the hottest things for you to check out this weekend in Vegas.

Journey at The Joint

Where: The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino
When: Select dates between April 29 – May 16

“After All These Years,” the “Lights” of Las Vegas are “Faithfully” shining upon one of the most iconic rock bands of all time as Journey takes the stage at The Joint to kick of their nine-show residency. Fans better be ready for a concert experience “Of A Lifetime” as the legendary rockers put on one hell of a show “Just The Same Way” they did in their heyday. And better yet, “Mother, Father,” even though you may think that rock concerts are an activity “Only the Young” can enjoy these days, you should totally come too because while you may be “Feeling That Way” I bet you’ll want to “Stay Awhile” because you’ll soon realize that the band is still the same “Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’” group that you used to love. And before you know it, we will all be thinking “Why Can’t This Night Go On Forever?”

As for us other concert goers, after the bartender in The Joint tells us that he can pour a drink “Any Way You Want It,” we are going to have to go our “Separate Ways” because this concert will have me rocking like it’s 1980-something because hey, a “Girl Can’t Help It.” Oh and just you wait, when “Don’t Stop Believin’” blasts through the speakers you can bet I’ll be dancing and singing with “Open Arms” because that’s one of the only songs my generation truly knows. And when “The Party’s Over,” I hope that “I Would Find You” since I’ll be the one “Who’s Crying Now” because I just can’t “Escape” my love for this band. So, put your party pants on (I wish that were a song title) and get ready to rock with Journey this weekend.

Tyson Beckford Guest Hosts ‘Chippendales’

Where: The Rio
When: April 30

Basically naked men doing sexy things in addition to a basically naked Tyson Beckford doing sexy things is really…sexy. Need we say more? The correct answer is “no,” but we will elaborate simply because talking about basically naked men is a fun thing to do. Chippendales is nothing new but the production is cranking up the heat with some new moves and a supermodel guest host, Tyson Beckford. From April 30 through May 24, the chiseled hunk will be joining the “Chippendales” cast as a part of his efforts to promote his new movie, “Chocolate City.” In his film, Beckford takes on the role of a fireman but we are anxiously waiting to the see which roles he takes on for “Chippendales” and how much of his clothing comes off during his time performing in the ever-sexy male revue.

Check out our interview with Tyson Beckford and his upcoming “Chippendales” engagement and be sure to catch your chance to shamelessly drool at the sight of the show’s delicious man candy.

Fight or flight?

Where: The LINQ Promenade
When: April 30 – May 3

While the main focus of this weekend will be on the big Mayweather versus Pacquiao fight, if you’re not so into that type of entertainment, let us offer you another thrill. From April 30 to May 3, The LINQ will be hosting a grand opening celebration of the promenade. Here you can check out some free concerts, pool parties and drink specials and you can also get in on a chance to get one of the best views of Las Vegas from the top of the world’s largest observation wheel, the High Roller. And while you’re on the LINQ promenade, you can do a little shopping, grab a bite to eat, or just sit on a bench and people watch… take it from us, in Vegas, people watching is an event in itself.

141st Kentucky Derby Viewing Party

Where: The Venetian/ Palazzo
When: May 2

Off to the races! The Running of the 141st Kentucky Derby is at 3:16p.m. on Saturday, May 2. If you’re betting on the game, you will most likely find yourself at one of the many sports books on the Strip, but if you’re simply interested in watching the event, the Rockhouse at Venetian/ Palazzo will be hosting a derby day party with plenty of mint juleps and Kentucky bourbon, of course. With a $50 cover charge, guests are invited to enjoy an open bar and encouraged to wear their race day duds complete with derby-style hats and accessories to compliment the tradition of the event.

Trading one desert for another, I moved to Las Vegas from Arizona nearly three years ago. It was something about the sparkling lights and the all-encompassing entertainment factor that persuaded me to swap cacti for casinos and dry heat for well…even drier heat. And while I do love a good show, I will always keep true to my country girl ways seeing that I am an absolute sucker for a good country concert and will always indulge the opportunity to go out country dancing! But in a city that undoubtedly has some of the world’s best cuisine, a wild assortment of endless experiences, and of course phenomenal shows, Vegas certainly has that unparalleled good time vibe that can make a city slicker out of just about anyone… including myself!
