Must dos this weekend in Vegas: April 10 – 12, 2015

Vegas is always the place to be, but this weekend is chock-full of mayhem just waiting to be had. From a specialty beer festival downtown to show-stopping performances by musical giants, you’ll be swaying from side-to-side before you know it. Yeah, some of that may be the booze but it’s also the tunes.

Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga perform April 10-11 at Planet Hollywood.

Heaven, we’re in Heaven

I think it’s safe to say we were all a little surprised to see this match up. Other than the fact that they’re both New Yawkers, you would never have guessed they had much in common. But when Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga decided to make music together, something unexpected happened, like — clouds parting-sun shining — unexpected. Now, they’re headed back to Vegas for a special encore presentation at Planet Hollywood before their tour whisks them away to far off lands. Old school meets new school in this award-winning duo’s two-night melodious extravaganza.

Must Love Brews

Beer, beer, everywhere – and lots of drops to drink

As if we needed more reasons to throw a couple back, the biggest beer festival in the state is coming to the Fremont East District on Saturday, April 11. Motley Brew’s Great Vegas Festival of Beer features more than 100 breweries who are slinging 300 different craft beers and ciders. Chugging those frothy beverages will be a major highlight of your day, but there’s so much more than drinking (BTW that’s what you need to say when persuading a designated driver to come with you). There will be tons of food vendors, giant-sized drinking games that you don’t have to be drunk to enjoy, live music and a silent disco, go ahead and Google it — we’ll wait. Don’t worry about getting sloshed, just stumble over to the Fremont Street Experience and you’ll fit in perfectly with the rest of Fremont Street after dark.

Red Heads Rejoice

 The Red Rocker returns

April 11 is apparently a big day for swashbucklers because Grammy Award-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar & The Circle are at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center. Presented by Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum, he’ll be joined onstage by Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham and Vic Johnson to play four decades worth of hits from Van Halen, Led Zeppelin and Montrose. Grab your lighters and rock out to everybody’s favorite hits “I Can’t Drive 55” and “Your Love is Driving Me Crazy.” Maybe if you say a little prayer to the rock gods you may even get lucky enough to sample Sammy’s new Beach Bar Red Head Rum.

Ray Romano, David Spade, and Roseanne Barr

Ménage ha-ha

This is the weekend to laugh until it hurts. Three comics-turned-television stars return to their stand-up roots for a weekend of side-aching fun. Ray Romano, star of “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Just Shoot Me’s” David Spade team up for two nights of laughs at the Mirage’s Terry Fator Theatre. This is a unique opportunity to see both comedic stars banter back-and-forth together onstage. Across the street at the Lipshtick comedy series in the Venetian’s Sands Showroom, best-selling author and chronic presidential hopeful Roseanne Barr will be headlining. Don’t even pretend like you didn’t watch all nine seasons of her Emmy Award-winning sitcom “Roseanne.”

Born a Buckeye - raised a Hoosier. I grew up in a one-horse town that straddles the Indiana/Ohio state line and until 2006, was in two different time zones. There were three stoplights and a whopping 48 students in my graduating class. Fast forward a few years later, I was bitten by the travel bug and decided to head west. It seems like no matter how long I live here, there’s always something that still makes my jaw drop. That’s what I love about Vegas; you never know what you’re going to see next and that’s what makes living here so much fun. Basically, if you’re bored in this town, there’s something wrong with you…not the city. I’m an avid traveler with an incurable case of wanderlust so stay tuned for all the tours, attractions and shopping adventures that Sin City has to offer.
