Vegas Weekender: Vegas hosts B-boys, beers and bands

Bored with your summer? Come to Vegas, where the spirit of summer stays alive with a variety of events sure to keep your itinerary busy all weekend. From break dancers and bands of all genres to beer specials and pool parties, it might be a good idea to get in all your sleep now. With all that’s going on this weekend, you’ll find yourself partying around the clock.

Headliners

The Lion King

Disney's The Lion King

If you haven’t already seen the smash hit, “Disney’s The Lion King” at Mandalay Bay, now is the perfect time. Combining beautiful sets, brilliant choreography and enough animal costumes to fill up an entire savannah, “The Lion King” is the ideal summer show. Showtimes are 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday (dark on Friday).

Ready to hang with Mr. Cooper? Comedian Mark Curry brings his jokes to the stage at the Las Vegas Hilton through Sunday, July 25, 9 p.m. nightly.

The laughs don’t have to stop here. See George Wallace at the Flamingo Tuesday through Saturday at 10 p.m.

Fans of Jerry Seinfeld can catch him at Caesars Palace, Friday, July 23 and Saturday, July 24.

If you’re ready to rock out, head over to the Rio, where the legendary Queensryche performs Saturday, July 24 at 8 p.m.

B-Boy fans can come and represent for this weekend’s Ultimate B-Boy Championship. From Hip Hop International (the creators of MTV’s “Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew”) the 9th annual World Hip Hop Dance Championship offers electrifying performances and competition for $20,000. Season 5 “America’s Best Dance Crew” winners Poreotix also plan on competing for the big prize.

Preliminary events highlighted by USA Finals, World Popping, Locking and Freestyle Battles, and Urban Dance Moves workshops take place from July 26-July 31 at Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa. The World Hip Hop Dance Championship Finals are set for August 1 at Orleans Arena.

Also in town are Lyle Lovett and His Large Band at The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel, Saturday, July 24. Also at the Hard Rock is New Zealand reggae band Katchafire, playing Friday, July 23 for Rogue’s Friday Night Live pool concert series.

Nightlife

If you’re looking to start the party early, head over to Tacos & Tequila inside the Luxor. Tacos & Tequila offers summer happy hour specials Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. Enjoy Hornitos shots, Dos Equis Lager or casaritas available for just $5 each, or a bucket of authentic Sol Mexican beers served on ice, available for $18. Hungry? T&T’s delicious taco and beer combination features six signature tacos and a bucket of Sol Mexican beers for only $29.

Get your drink on at Planet Hollywood’s Cabo Wabo Cantina, which offers $1 Beer Mondays. Every Monday guests can enjoy a variety of draft beers for $1 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Fans of Lebron James (no matter which team he plays for) get a chance to see him Friday, July 23 at Lavo nightclub inside Palazzo and Saturday, July 24 at Tao Nightclub inside Venetian.

What’s better than the best in skincare and beauty products? Free skincare and beauty products! For all you ladies, Eve Nightclub presents “Eva’s Gifting Suite,” with complimentary gifts. On Friday, July 23, the event offers luxurious giveaways from Sprayology.

Keeping your cool

We’re already in the middle of summer, so packing your swim attire is absolutely mandatory. The Signature at MGM Grand offers “Blue Hour,” a poolside lounge experience right in between day and night. “Blue Hour” takes place every Friday and Saturday between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. now through Labor Day weekend. The night begins with Happy Hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. when specially priced pitchers of sangria ($15) and half-priced beer buckets ($17.50 for 6 bottles) set the mood.“Blue Hour” is open to guests 21 years of age and older and admission is free.

DJ Tina T brings the ’80s back on Saturday, July 24 at Azure’s “Stereo Love Saturdays.” Tina T has rocked crowds in the hottest nightclubs all over the world and shared the stage with such celebrities as Lady GaGa, Black Eyed Peas, Ludacris and Run DMC, to name a few. Select from a special drink menu including DJ Tina T’s favorite candies: Jolly Ranchers, bubblegum and rock candy while enjoying DJ Tina T’s classic ’80s mash-ups. The event is from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

XS at Encore hosts its after-dark summer swimming party, XS Sunday Night Swim. Available for reservations, guests may choose from 14 lily pads, 12 day beds and six large poster beds. Four bars are strategically placed throughout the club, so you can avoid long lines and spend more time on the dance floor.

End your Vegas weekend on a cool note. Through the rest of July, celebrate National Ice Cream month with tasty gelato at Mandarin Oriental’s Amore Patisserie. Though gelato is an Italian invention, guests can savor American tastes such as PB&J, Red Velvet Cheesecake and Chocolate Fudge Brownie.
