If you’re a regular at the pool clubs in Vegas, you might have noticed something new behind the counter: This delicious-sounding SnoBar ice cream and frozen pops.
Ice cream with liquor in it. Kind of brilliant, if it tastes right.
I had the chance to sample a few SnoBar flavors recently and despite a few reservations about how well this idea would work, they actually turned out to be pretty tasty.
The ice pops, the Margarita and the Cosmopolitan, had all the refreshing quality of any fruit-flavored ice pop while essentially being a cocktail. Likewise, the richer ice cream was delicious, adding a creamier texture to old-school cocktails like the Brandy Alexander, Grasshopper and Pink Squirrel.
See, in the past, some ice cream flavors simulated the taste of liquor – think Rum & Raisin. SnoBar has the liquor infused into the ice cream itself and somehow gets around difficulties with freezing alcohol (thanks a bunch, science!) They pretty much taste just like the cocktails they’re named for, with equivalent alcohol content, 3.59 to 6.41 percent.
Some places are already getting creative with the product: I also recently sampled the “Ultimate Root Beer Float” at M Resort, which uses the Brandy Alexander ice cream, root beer and a shot of root beer-flavored vodka. Like a lot of mixed frozen drinks poolside, it packs a wallop.
If you’re open to trying something a little different than a daiquiri, I recommend giving one of these a try over the summer.
