clintonkelly3What girl doesn’t love fashion?

And even if you’re not really into following the latest trends, you can’t help but enjoy seeing a makeover.

This past Saturday, Clinton Kelly from TLC’s hit show, “What Not To Wear” came to Fashion Show mall to present Macy’s “Makeover America” at the Great Hall.

Last month, more than 5,500 women submitted entries for this head-to-toe makeover contest. After sorting through thousands of entries, Kelly and a team from Macy’s chose a select group of women in eight cities to get a personal makeover from the fashionable TV show host. Last Saturday’s show featured 12 women (chosen from Las Vegas and surrounding areas) modeling colorful, yet chic fall styles.

I decided to prepare myself by dressing as neutral and “safe” as possible, just in case I got pulled from the audience and critiqued in front of everyone. I kept it simple with a black sleeveless top, skinny jeans and shiny black flip-flops. But after watching this makeover show, I learned that it’s okay to play with colors (as long as it’s not overkill) and to take advantage of wearing heels and wedges, even if it’s just for a simple trip to the mall. After seeing these women walk down the runway with fun and flirty heels, it definitely made me want to go on a shopping spree.

clintonkelly1“Shoes set the tone for an outfit,” Kelly noted. “You don’t see nuns in stilettos or strippers in orthopedic shoes!”

When he said this, I looked at my own shoes and wish I had worn heels.

Each makeover definitely set the “wow” factor and inspired me to play with color. One model wore different shades of purple with a bright yellow bracelet that really stood out. Another woman wore a sleek, black pencil skirt and paired it with a bright fuschia blouse (seen on right).

In addition to presenting these 12 makeovers, Kelly also took questions from the audience and even brought up a couple of volunteers who didn’t mind hearing his straightforward fashion opinions. Throughout the program, he kept things lively with his honest, yet amusing tips. For Kelly’s fashion secrets, click here.

Even without Kelly on the runway giving fashion advice, you can still see the latest trends with the mall’s weekend runway shows from Friday through Sunday, every hour on the hour from noon to 6 p.m. Let me tell you – it’s a lot more exciting than traditional  mannequin displays.
