Today Smokey Robinson announced his new show opening at Imperial Palace called “Smokey Robinson Presents Australia’s Human Nature – The Ultimate Celebration of Motown.”

He initially met up with Human Nature for an album of Motown hits that the group was putting together where they wanted to sing their favorite songs with the original artists who performed them. Robinson explained that what struck him about this group was that unlike many popular recording artists whose voices are highly produced in the studio, Human Nature could create outstanding music just singing a cappella.

The all-male quartet (Toby Allen, Phil Burton, Andrew Tierney and Michael Tierney) performed a few songs during the announcement today, and I think the whole audience agreed with Robinson that it’s a refreshing change to hear artists perform live without any backing vocals or other special effects.

Human Nature is not that well known in the United States, but they have achieved huge success in Australia as one of the country’s top selling acts of all time. Robinson also explained that through this show he is looking forward to introducing the band to the rest of the world.

Could Vegas be a new launch pad for international acts? Possibly, but one thing’s for sure, Human Nature’s new residence in Vegas is reiterating why the city has become known as the “Entertainment Capital of the World.”

Here are some pictures from their performance.
