Over the last 50 years whenever the word Playboy was associated with a party, there was no doubt that it would be of epic proportions, something that would forever reverberate in the bowels of your memory.
Unfortunately, very few of us will ever get the chance to experience a night of debauchery at the iconic Playboy Mansion in our finest pajamas or nothing but a few shades of body paint.
Playboy’s biggest party of the year, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” is highlighted by the droves of celebrities it brings out and the accompanying publicity on celebrity news outlets like E! and People Magazine. The magnitude of the party has become so large that four years ago a second date and location was added to the mix and thankfully for us who live/play in Sin City, it was brought to Vegas.
The Fourth annual “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” party was held Aug. 14 with the Palms Pool and Bungalows taking the place of the infamous grotto. Thousands of lingerie and toga-wearing revelers provided delectable eye candy for the gods and goddesses theme and a smattering of celebs made appearances.
The night was hosted by former Playboy Playmate and all-around hottie Jenny McCarthy, who showed off her now 37-year-old body in an outfit that would make love goddess Aphrodite blush. And there was no one better to sing happy birthday to Kevin Dillon. “Entourage” star, who turns 45 on Aug. 19, also received a Playboy bunny-themed cake and a VIP Playboy Club key.
While fellow “Entourage” castmates Kevin Connolly and Bob Saget were also in town, Dillon was joined by Victor Rasuk, star of HBO’s “How to Make It in America,” who was also handed one of the coveted keys, which is the Palms’ version of receiving the key to the city.
Former Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil made an appearance along with Carrot Top, who is a regular at the Playboy Mansion parties.
Rumors swirled all night that Lady Gaga, fresh off an appearance at the MGM Grand, would grace the crowd with her oft-laced over face and peculiar clothing choices. But the singer, who was staying at a suite in the Palms, opted to head to another party. Instead we spotted Cripsin Glover walking through the crowd largely unnoticed. Maybe that’s because you wouldn’t know who he was unless he was knocking Biff out in “Back to the Future,” or coming within inches of David Letterman’s head with a platform shoe Kung Fu kick.
But really, the night belonged to the people who dared to dress like Spartans, Greek goddesses, lingerie models and even canvasses. The wardrobes of the night could be best described by looking at what you would normally wear to Vegas – which likely wouldn’t be acceptable anywhere else – and remove everything but the essential parts. While this was a Playboy party, nudity wasn’t allowed but it’s parties like this that keep body paint and pasty manufacturers in business.
If you can’t make it to the Playboy Mansion, the Palms’ version certainly has to be more than a reasonable facsimile. Here it is only the Tuesday after the party and we’re already looking forward to counting down the next 360 or so more days until next year’s party. Neither the date nor the theme have been set yet, but you can bet we’ll be there, will you?
