MGM Resorts International announced plans for a $100 million outdoor plaza project in April 2013. It involves remodeling the front facades of New York-New York and Monte Carlo to showcase new eateries, shops and Hershey’s Chocolate World, an interactive attraction that celebrates Hershey’s-branded products. This district will be anchored by a 20,000-seat arena developed in conjunction with AEG.

Last month, the promenade in front of New York-New York was reopened to pedestrians, unveiling several new businesses (Stupidiotic, Swatch and I♥NYNY) and a new Starbucks. Much of the European-style exterior of the Monte Carlo is under construction as well. Look for a number of new restaurants to be launched there in coming months – including Shake Shack, Sambalatte, 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria and Double Barrel Roadhouse.

The outdoor plaza project at New York-New York and Monte Carlo is expected to be completed by the first half of 2014 while the arena will open in spring 2016. Take a look at photos of the progress below.
