Vegas Uncork’d: Food festivities

Culinary greats including Rick Moonen, Bradley Ogden, Jet Tila, and François Payard are headlining 2011’s Vegas Uncork’d, taking place May 5 – 8. The lineup was announced at a press conference Tuesday.

The four-day festival of events promises to attract a large food-loving crowd. Various events take place all day long and include lots of dining, chatting and entertainment.

“Vegas Uncork’d is the greatest culinary event in the world and I am pleased to be part of this talented group here today,” said Rick Moonen, executive chef of RM Seafood in Mandalay Bay.

With such extraordinary talent from renowned chefs and culinarians, Vegas Uncork’d has the opportunity to arrange unique and exciting epicurean activities.

New events added to the weekend this year include Run for the Roses, a Kentucky Derby celebration and four-course lunch with wine pairings at Michael Mina in Bellagio. Chef Michael Mina and Sommelier Raj Parr will be present to sign copies of their books.

Chef Hubert Keller displays his non-culinary skills as he mans the DJ booth at his Late Night with Hubert Keller event. Champagne will be flowing, snacks will be served and desserts will be devoured at Keller’s new restaurant, Fleur.

Last year, Steve Wynn became a vegan and added vegan menus to all of the restaurants at Wynn and Encore. Now, you can learn the secrets to creating vegan meals from Wynn and Encore’s consulting chef, Tal Ronnen. Ronnen, who has cooked for Oprah Winfrey, Chelsea Clinton and Ellen Degeneres, will create an elegant reception-style tasting with tasty vegan and vegetarian dishes.

Popular events return from last year and include the Grand Tasting, a night filled with plenty of food and Caesars Palace’s Garden of the Gods pool as the backdrop. Mix and mingle with the culinary elite! Better by the Bay is a fun beach party event at The Beach at Mandalay Bay. The clambake-style menu is served buffet-style on the 11-acre beach. 

With such stellar events, Vegas gets to show off its culinary chops — and that’s good for Vegas.
