Adventuredome’s newest roller coaster to open in late January

The Adventuredome at Circus Circus has moved closer to opening its newest thrill ride — El Loco.

The final pieces of a 1,300-foot track for the roller coaster are expected to be installed this week. Already the yellow track can be seen twisting and turning underneath The Adventuredome’s pink canopy.

Originally scheduled to open in December, El Loco’s projected opening date is now late January, 2014.

When open the roller coaster will feature:

  • 90-foot ascent followed by a greater-than-straight-down diving drop producing a negative 1.5 “vertical G”
  • 45-degree outward-banked curve
  • 180-degree turn that goes over the edge into a barrel roll

The ride features open-carriage cars that each seat four passengers. The design purportedly will allow the roller coaster to make tighter and faster turns. You can see a car on display at The Adventuredome.

I'm one of a rare breed of folks, a native Las Vegan. That's Las Vegan, not Vegan. Being born in Las Vegas has endowed me with crazy Vegas skills - must be all the exposure to neon. I'm a human casino GPS, celebrity locator (You never know who you'll meet in a casino elevator, right Richard Branson?) and tip calculator. My mom taught me probability and statistics with decommissioned casino dice. When I walk through a hotel, tourists think I work there. Maybe it's my smile, my purposeful walk or my friendly answers. Maybe it's just the black suit. But whatever the reason, gives me the chance to exercise my Vegas super powers every day. Now if I could just predict when Megabucks would hit...
